Old Books, New Looks {11}

Time again for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old. Here's a few that I've come across lately:

The OLDIES  vs.  The NEWBIES

I loved the impact of the original. The new one looks like they were trying to make it look like an adult book. Pretty and simple though, I guess.

 I like them both, actually. I didn't read this so I don't know which fits better, but the original is definitely more unique.

Don't understand this change at all! I loved the original cover!

 Ugh. What an awful change. The guy looks so cheesy!

 And here, dear friends, is an example of the changes I dislike the most---when they change the cover AND the title. I actually really love both these covers, but why the title change? Are they trying to trick people into buying it twice? Did they just decide that this one worked better? Inquiring minds want to know! And heads up, someone has the new one mistakenly marked at Lucid #2 at Goodreads, but it's actually the same book.

So weigh in! What do you think of these makeovers?

  1. I honestly like all the original covers more :( Especially for The Shadow Prince... why....

  2. I didn't know that All the Truth That's in Me had a new cover, actually I think it's horrible, didn't have anything to do with the story and I would not pick it up in a book store. I like the originals better in all the others, The Shadow Prince is the most horrible change from all. Lucid has a beautiful cover and I really like The Midnight Dress's original cover too. Great post! :)

  4. While I'm not a fan of faces on the covers, The truth that's in me is actually one of the few that works for me. The new one.. I would walk by it in the store. Landry Park, the first one is a bit more unique to me. The shadow prince: NOOOO. I still hope it's some kind of joke. And if covers aren't worse enough, I hate it when they change titles.. Lucid was perfect.

  5. Yay :D Awesome post sweetie. <3 Thank you so much for sharing all these covers. Sigh. The first book. I LOVED the book. And that hardcover is to die for. But I hate the new paperback cover :( HATE IT. Which is why I haven't even pre-ordered it, lol. I don't want it. Sigh.

  7. OMG that new cover for the Bree Despain book is absolutely AWFUL. It must be a joke, right? Because I can't imagine someone being drawn into reading that... I almost always seem to like the original covers better. It's the worst when they change the title too!

    Oh dear, I don't like any of these cover changes, especially the one for The Shadow Prince, the new cover is awful! Why did anyone think that was a good idea? And I don't get why they changed the title of Lucid as well, I much preferred the original.

  9. I definitely prefer the original covers. Some of the new covers are horrible and I think would turn readers away from the books.

  10. Wow, Shadow Prince is just bad. They should have taken a poll before deciding on that change. I like the top three though... The originals weren't bad, but I feel like, as a bookseller, the new covers will be more appealing on the shelf. And, with Lucid, really don't like either cover (though I think Lucid was totally okay as the title...)

  11. Why must they change covers on us? Sometimes, though very rarely, I get it, but it's just so confusing. And they're often so much more generic. i like the redesign for The Midnight Dress in general, but going from the original to that? Bleh. And I like the colors for The Shadow Prince redesign, but lord that boy looks stupid. Title changes are definitely the worst, though. At least they don't happen too often?

  12. Overall, I'm fonder of the original covers as well, especially for The Midnight Dress. The original cover is so evocative!
