New Shelf Goodies & The Weekly Nutshell {99}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) The Weekly Nutshell will be just week here at Stories & Sweeties, in a nutshell. (inspired by Ginger @ GReads and her recaps at the end of the TGIF posts)

New shelf goodies this week:
For review:
Chasers of the Light by Tyler Knott Gregson
Love the inside of this one already, with poems written on bits of scrap paper and receipts, and I'm just a sucker for typewriter font. :)
Gates of Thread and Stone by Lori M. Lee
One of my most anticipated reads, but thanks to some mixed trusted-blogger reviews, I'll be going into this one with realistic expectations!
The Alliance by Shannon Stoker
I don't know much about this series---anyone recommend?

Many thanks to Penguin, Skyscape, and William Morrow for these!

The Weekly Nutshell:
{Tuesday} A loving farewell to Robin Williams
{Thursday} Guest review: Fiendish by Brenna Yovanoff
{Friday} Cover Story

Well it was quite a week, people. I'm still a bit in shock over the world's loss of Robin Williams.  My son has been on a streak of watching the Night at the Museum movies for about 3 weeks now, and I still can't help get a little teary when I hear his voice. On a happier note, we took my daughter to the Paul McCartney concert this week, and although we didn't get to go in (the pricey ticket was just not going to happen!) we did tailgate in the Candlestick parking lot and listen to the whole thing! As huge Beatles fans, it was amazing just to know we were hearing those iconic songs performed live by the man himself! :)
This week I'm reading Jackaby and I can barely put it down! I'm also reading The Archived at work (also really good) and reading select stories from The Cabinet of Curiosities

What are you reading this week?

  1. I started and finished Shadows by Paula Weston yesterday and immediately started Haze. Not sure why I didn't know about this series sooner but I love it. Yes the Fallen Angels/Demons has been done many times but this is quite enjoyable. Just worried how long I have to wait for book three. It was just released in Australia so it might be a while :(

Ooh I'm so excited for Gates of Thread and Stone! Hope you enjoy it. The news about Robin Williams was so sad, but I'm glad you got to listen to the concert! Happy reading :).

  3. Gates of Thread and stone looks really good :) Happy reading!

  4. I am excited to read Gates! I hope you enjoy, excited for your review!

  5. Gates of Thread and Stone looks pretty excellent. It's so shocking that Robin Williams died. I can't believe it. I'm also reading Jackaby. I hope to finish Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as well as Radiant by Karina Sumner-Smith. I'm reading Unwept and listening to All Our Yesterdays but I'm not sure when I'll finish because of school.

  6. I so want to read Jackaby! Can't wait to hear your thoughts :) I read The Archived and The Unbound back to back and loved them so much! Hope you will too!!

  7. Yeah, Gates of Thread and Stone was disappointing to me, but having lowered expectations should help! I do hope you like it though! I am so excited you're loving Jackaby, because I'm seriously ready to read it but I'd be so sad if it weren't good. :)

I've never considered tailgating at a concert, but that sounds like fun! LOVE the Beatles.

  8. Yay for gorgeous books. <3 I also got Gates of Thread and Stone :) It's just so gorgeous, isn't it? Sigh. I adore it. Hoping to read it soonish ;p Most likely. I hope you will enjoy all of these sweetie. <3 Happy reading :)

  9. Ohhh! I also want to read Gates of Thread and Stone. Hope you'll like it more than the rest.

I've seen Jackaby on Edelweiss but didn't request it because I already have my hands full with Harper Teen titles. The cover looks incredible though.

Haha That's what I did a couple of times when I couldn't afford the tickets for U2 and Snow Patrol.

  10. I love the cover of Gates of Thread and Stone!
I love Night at the Museum, definitely sad to hear about Robin Williams. Hope your enjoying Jackaby! I need to start that one soon!

Ooooo, GATES of THREAD and STONE! I've also read mixed reviews about it, but we almost always agree on books. Let me know what you think :)
