When My Heart was Wicked
by Tricia Stirling
hitting shelves February 24th, 2015
from Scholastic Press
description:
"I used to be one of
those girls. The kind who loved to deliver bad news. When I colored my
hair, I imagined it seeping into my scalp, black dye pooling into my
veins.
But that was the old Lacy. Now, when I cast spells, they are always for good."
16-year-old Lacy believes that magic and science can work side by side. She's a botanist who knows how to harness the healing power of plants. So when her father dies, Lacy tries to stay with her step-mother in Chico, where her magic is good and healing. She fears the darkness that her real mother, Cheyenne, brings out, stripping away everything that is light and kind.
Yet Cheyenne never stays away for long. Beautiful, bewitching, unstable Cheyenne who will stop at nothing, not even black magic, to keep control of her daughter's heart. She forces Lacy to accompany her to Sacramento, and before long, the "old" Lacy starts to resurface.
But when Lacy survives a traumatic encounter, she finds herself faced with a choice. Will she use her powers to exact revenge and spiral into the darkness forever? Or will she find the strength to embrace the light?

My thoughts: Gorgeous, gorgeous cover. And I love that its about a girl fighting to use her natural magic for good when her own mother is fighting to drag her into the dark.
Love the cover! Her mother and her fight to overcome the darkness within her reminds me of Lena from Beautiful Creatures.
ReplyDeleteGreat cover and concept. Seems like a really good read. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Hump Day!

Wow, that cover is beautiful! I haven't read good witch book in a while...and it looks like I maybe won't get to read it for a few more months, jeesh, February?! Oh well, I'll add it to my TBR XD

This sounds really good! I like it when characters have to face some kind of internal struggle. Hoping it doesn't go down an overly cheesy route as I do like seeing darker sides of characters but will definitely be reading this! Great pick :).
ReplyDeleteWHOAAAAAA! This looks awesome! Great choice :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous cover, and the synopsis sounds good too!

I love the sound of this! I haven't some across it before, thanks for sharing. I adore the cover, just added to my TBR, hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteI agree this cover is stunning! And the whole going against her nature of bad magic to do good makes it even better. Adding this to my list too, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteOoh great find, I hadn't heard of this one yet! I'm all over it now though - really digging the blurb and cover!
ReplyDeleteOh, this one is new to me! Have added it to my Goodreads list. It sounds like it delves into a fascinating mother-daughter relationship, and like everyone else I have to say the cover is very eye-catching! The beautiful combination of dark and light shades ties in nicely to the book description.
ReplyDeleteI.. am not sure about that summary :( Doesn't sound like I would like it. Sigh. BUT THEN. That cover! Stuuuunning. I wants it, lol. I must see some reviews first, though :) Great pick sweetie. <3
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this sounds amazing! THAT COVER, but I love that she works both with botany and with magic! That should be so interesting to read. Wonderful pick, Becky!
