Waiting on Wednesday

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It lets us all gush about what soon-to-be released books we are jumping-up-and-down excited for.

Fathomless
by Jackson Pearce

hitting shelves September 4th, 2012 from Little,Brown Books for Young Readers

description:
Celia Reynolds is the youngest in a set of triplets and the one with the least valuable power. Anne can see the future, and Jane can see the present, but all Celia can see is the past. And the past seems so insignificant -- until Celia meets Lo.

Lo doesn't know who she is. Or who she was. Once a human, she is now almost entirely a creature of the sea -- a nymph, an ocean girl, a mermaid -- all terms too pretty for the soulless monster she knows she's becoming. Lo clings to shreds of her former self, fighting to remember her past, even as she's tempted to embrace her dark immortality.

When a handsome boy named Jude falls off a pier and into the ocean, Celia and Lo work together to rescue him from the waves. The two form a friendship, but soon they find themselves competing for Jude's affection. Lo wants more than that, though. According to the ocean girls, there's only one way for Lo to earn back her humanity. She must persuade a mortal to love her . . . and steal his soul.

My thoughts: Excited!! I loved Sisters Red so much. And while I haven't gotten around to Sweetly, my best friend and guest reviewer gave it an ecstatic 5-cupcake rating. So when I heard the next retelling in Jackson Pearce's series would be of The Little Mermaid, I was freaking out with glee. I do have to say, I'm am so disappointed that they are changing the original covers of Sweetly and Sisters Red to match this one, instead of making Fathomless match the hardcovers (they were so incredible, artful, imaginative, and unique!). The new look is very pretty, but not nearly as striking. Still I can't wait to read this third installment in the Fairytale Retellings series!! I really hope she keeps going with these!

  9. I'm so excited for Fathomless! This is the first time I've seen the cover and read the full premise, so thanks for getting me up to date! I am also very disappointed that they have the changed the cover scheme. The covers of Sisters Red and Sweetly are what originally got me to pick them up. I like this cover but it just doesn't look like a "Jackson Pearce" novel to me :) Thanks for sharing and for stopping by!
Btw, I hope you get to go to the Gilt launch. That's very cool that you live close enough to go!

  10. The only thing I know about Jackson Pearce is that she's friends with Maggie Stiefvater, but that's good enough for me. Sign me up!
