New Feature: Meet You on Monday :)

Hello, all!  So…new thing today! For a while now, I’ve wanted to do something a little more personal and a little more discussion-friendly.  I’ve also often thought how fun it is that we interview all the wonderful authors---wouldn’t it be fun to know more about each other, too! So I’m starting Meet You on Monday.  I’m going to be posting a fun question or subject (sometimes book related, sometimes not!) and of course, answer it myself here.  Feel free to answer in the comments or grab the banner and do your own post! If you do, be sure to link me in the comments so I can come “meet” you, too!

To kick it off, here’s a little about me in one of my favorite ways to interview the authors I have visiting Stories & Sweeties:

10 Random Facts About Me! :)

I may love YA books, but I’m no teenager. Far from..we’ll just leave it at that. :)

My dream is to someday have my own children’s bookstore and cupcake shop and call it…what else?...Stories & Sweeties.

Happily married for years and years and forever. 3 kids, 2 dogs, 1 super fuzzy kitty.

I love tea, especially when it’s with cream and scones at a fancy tea house.

Before book blogging, I designed digital scrapbooking supplies. Most of the designs on my blog (the background, the cupcake button, etc) carries over from that hobby!
I hate spiders.  HATE. THEM.  Can't even look at the books with the close-up photographs of them without shaking.

I love purple.  Probably 80% of my wardrobe is purple in some way.  And I can't even tell you how many shades of purple nailpolish I own.

A year and a half ago, my husband told me not to watch Doctor Who because he didn’t think I’d like it. Wrong. I adored it. Even went as the Tardis last Halloween. It's snowballed into a general obsession with British television: Sherlock, Catherine Tate show, Top Gear, it all. My son's teacher told us he often breaks into a pretty convincing British accent.  Oops :)

5 years ago I was diagnosed with CML, a chronic form of leukemia.  And every day, I kick it's arse. ;)
I am quite possibly the world's worst gardener.  But I never give up.  My hubby has taken to apologizing to plants when I put them in my store cart.

SO that's all pretty random :D  What about you?  Have any random facts you'd like to share about YOU?

  1. I have two kids. Tomorrow my oldest turns 21 and I was 21 when I had him, eep! Couldn't imagine him being married but he is a senior at the University. I have red hair and hated it as a child because I was made fun of, didn't want to have kids w/ red hair then I had my daughter who has beautiful red hair and you know what, she's loves it and wouldn't want any other color, go figure!

    1. I love red hair!! Both my older children had gorgeous auburn red hair (a mix of having Scottish on their dad's side and Filipino on my side!) and I loved it. I'm glad to hear your daughter loves it!

  2. Love this Feature :))
And .. I am also a bad gardener - flowers, plants and me just do not match.

A Bookstore - Gosh that would be my dream too, but then I totally did something completely else for my car rear and now, I don't think this will happen, Ever!

... and keep kicking, and kick it hard!!!!

    1. LOL, I plan to! :D

You have such an amazing career, though, Professor Danny! :D Maybe we'll both have bookstores when we retire.

  3. Aw, I love this post. <3 And feature :D Thank you so much for sharing sweetie. YOU ARE AWESOME! Huh. Random facts about me. I'm no good at this, lol. I have 3 chronical diseases. I live in my own apartment, but above my mom in her house. I have the most gorgeous cat, hih. I am 20 years old and have never had a boyfriend. Heh. That is enough of me, I think (A) Anyway. Loved reading what you shared. <3

    1. You DO have a pretty kitty!! She is so cute. I have a maine coone boy, very fluffy and very lovey :)
I'm sorry to hear about the chronic diseases. Keep your chin up, sweetie ;)
I would love to live closer to my mom---she's a fantastic cook and I have to drive half hour if I want some yummy dinner! :)

  4. That bookstore idea sounds brilliant. I love that you are a little older than a teenager, have kids, and still read YA…me too! I also admire the fact that you kick CML's butt everyday. Go you! I am also very afraid of spiders. I recently found a very large wolf spider right outside the door to my house and pretty much wanted to faint when it started crawling towards the door. ha. I HATE spiders as well. Thanks for sharing this fun info with us! Love this new feature!

    1. OH my...a few years ago there was a HUGE wolf spider in our house!! I looked at it and thought it was a toy spider, until I realized that Dex doesn't have any toy spiders and ran screaming from the room. UGH spiders.

  5. This is awesome. FUN!

-OMG kids books and cupcakes? I LOVE it. I was just thinking yesterday that I would really love being a children's librarian.
-How many years married? ;) Almost seven here with almost ten years together.
-Amen on tea and fancy tea houses.
-I keep meaning to try Dr. Who.
-Leukemia? What? Really? Oh honey. *HUG*

    1. I bet you'd make a fantastic children's librarian, Juju---the ones I work with seem to enjoy it! :D
Going on 21 years married ;) Yup, we started young, I was just out of high school. LOL, not something I would recommend, generally, but somehow we lucked out and it was the real deal ;)
Oh do try, Doctor Who!! It's so fun. A bit cheesy and silly but so much heart. I've cried several times watching that show. The Van Gogh episode gets me every time. *sniffle*.

Thanks for the hug :) Hugs are always welcome. ♥

  6. Of you ever open that book store, I'll be the first in line. I love this feature. I feel like I know you now :)

    1. Yay, my first future customer!! :D

That is exactly what I want from this feature, for you all to get to know me better and to get to know you all, too! :D

  7. Books and cupcakes? Double yummy. Thank you for sharing some facts about you. I also have three children, love YA books but am no longer a YA person. To be young again! Sigh...back when I didn't have to worry about bills and work and kids and know what I mean.

  8. I want to come to your bookstore!!! I love books and cupcakes :)

    This is a fun feature

    Michelle @ Book Briefs

    1. Someday...*sigh*. Thanks for stopping by, Michelle!

  9. This is a fun way to get to 'know you' :)

    - I'm an old-adult that loves YA! Children's books, MG, Chick Lit and more too! I'm too old to judge or be judged ;)
    - I have 3 boys and have been married for over 10years... too long, lol!
    - I would LOVE to own a book shop/cookie bakery! We could swap! Cookies for cupcakes! Yummm!
    - I used to scrapbook! And make cards! Stamp! All of it! Got a whole room full of stuff collecting dust right now!
    - I'm sorry to hear of your disease, I would have never guessed it! You're always shining around the internet! Thank you :)

  10. What a fun post! I love to get to "know" the bloggers I've become buddies with. I also completely hate spiders. I love that your design comes from scrapbooking (I LOVE the border on your blog, btw. I'm not sure I've ever told you that). It would be so cool to have a bookstore/cupcake shop. I would visit often! Thanks for sharing!
