Old Books, New Looks {17}

Time again for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old.  It's actually not often that I do two of these post so close together but I've been finding a lot of these lately! Here we go:

  The OLDIES   vs.  The NEWBIES
GASP!! It's not often this happens, but I LOVE THEM BOTH.

I haven't read this series yet, but I've heard there's great humor in it.  Both quirky covers fit that, but I think I like the illustrated one just a bit more!

Oh this is one that I definitely think the makeover was a big improvement!! I love the new one!

Are we seeing a bit of a theme here?  Illustrated covers are making a huge comback and I'm actually loving it. I do like the eeriness of the original, and I think it looks more like a YA book than the new one, but I LOVE the redesigned title font.

I love both of these, too. The original was so deliciously creepy with the contrast of pretty flowers and old boards and I love the titlework.  But I also love the  new cover that sets the time and place and seeing her booking it out of that graveyard really sets the eerie tone!
I'm not super crazy about either, but I do like the new one better. The old one never really appealed to me.

Design-wise, I would say the new is an improvement---but if you read the synopsis of this book, the happy little jar of fireflies seems a little too lighthearted for how intense the story sounds.

What say you?? Old or new? :D

Old Books, New Looks {16}

Time again for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old. Here's a few that I've come across lately:

  The OLDIES   vs.  The NEWBIES
Ack. Don't. The first design was too perfect for this wild, bizarre, eerily disorienting (in a good way lol) story and I hate to see it change.

Both are appealing, both have a pretty similar feel. But I do like the original more, with the hint of blood on the sword and the larger title font.

Nah, should have left this one alone. The new one is pretty, but ZERO points for originality.

I adore the new cover. I love the interest of an elegant lady wearing a skull pendant and I love the distressing.

The original was pretty, especially in person, but I far prefer the new one with the ghostly pale hands and the soft colors of the flowers. So pretty.

Both of the these are really interesting and both have pretty symbolic meaning to them as far as a story about lost faith. But if I picked up the second based just on the cover, I would think it was MG.

I did like the original cover...until I saw the new ones (this one and the one for the second book). The second is much more fun and the spiral background gives it a funky retro feel. Love it.

What a great change.  The first one was just unappealing to me. I really love the painted redesign. Plus it's about an artist---I appreciate significant touches like that.

I love the new look, the style is definitely what is on trend right now (the sort of candid photo + fun font combo), plus I love that it depicts "the five" that the story is about, with one on her own as the main character.

So---Like the old? New? Neither? LOL
I'd love to hear what you think of these changes!!

Old Books, New Looks {15}

Time again for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old. Here's a few that I've come across lately:

  The OLDIES   vs.  The NEWBIES
Why? First one is really beautiful, gives you a sense of the story and the setting---you get none of that in the new cover, it's just very generic and plain.

I like the original better on these, the simple silhouette against the giant moon---the new one is okay, though it looks just like the Elusion series.

Both are okay, but I like how interesting the original was compared to the somewhat ordinary run-of-the-mill "glaring girl" cover.

I don't like either. Maybe they make more sense after you've read the story?

Both of these are actually stunning, and while I do like the new just a little better, I think it makes it look like an adult novel.

The first cover never really appealed to me, and I think I like this new one a bit better. Though the blood grosses me out a bit, it definitely hints that something is about to go horribly wrong with that sweetener. :)

While the first cover was definitely prettier, the new one is definitely more interesting and gives more hint as to what the story is about.

So what do you think? Oldies or Newbies?

Old Books, New Looks {14}

Time again for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old. Here's a few that I've come across lately:

  The OLDIES  vs.  The NEWBIES
Definitely an improvement. The first one has such a cheesy early 90s vibe.

Hm. Undecided. I like them both. Though I lean toward the original.

It's quite a change--though neither one screams out READ ME to me.

I think I actually prefer the illustrated cover.  The Rainbow Rowell-illustrated cover trend has definitely taken YA by storm. :) In a good way.

I really like both of these, but I think I like the original just a bit more. Makes me think of Breakfast Club. :)

A perfect example of how font treatments can make such a huge difference. Original wins it for me. Can't imagine why they bothered to change it!

The first was simple and interesting, but I always thought it looked a little blah. While I don't love the new one either, their makeup definitely makes me think MERMAIDS!

Loved the original---simple design and gorgeous font. I think the new one has grown on me since I first saw it, it's pretty, but I still love the impact and originality of the first.

What do you think of these cover changes?  Which do you prefer..oldies or newbies?
