New Shelf Goodies {204}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

Whoa I haven't done one of these haul posts in ages! Here's what snuck into my mailbox in the last few weeks:

From Inkyard Press {Harlequin Teens's new name, have you heard?!}:

From Bloomsbury:
Inventing Victoria by Tonya Bolden

From Penguin:
Song of the Dead by Sarah Glenn Marsh
Tarot by Marissa Kennerson
Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte

 Signed Pre-Ordered:
Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco

And, of course, with the preorder, I got a gorgeous set of  tarot cards!!
Here they are featured on my bookstagram!

So excited for all of these! Even the ones that came unsolicited look intriguing so I'm excited to try them out.
In case you missed it, don't forget to swing back to my Boneless Mercies Q & A post and enter to win a copy of the book and a custom-made matching necklace!

New Shelf Goodies {203}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

Here's what hit my mailbox this week!
{coming April 24th from Delacorte Press}
The description of this one didn't really catch my attention, quite honestly---but the REVIEWS of this one are what makes me want to read it!  I guess it's more than the typical high fantasy, royalty on the bring of war and rebellion story that it seemed! Have you read this one? What did you think?

{out now from Entangled Teen}
LOL, this one just looks like so much fun. I started it yesterday and I'm enjoying!

That was all for this week, but be sure to check out my Instgram to see what I recently acquired on my recent visit to TLA in Dallas! ;)

Happy reading to all!

New Shelf Goodies {201}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

My recent mailbox goodies!
{coming June 5th from Bloomsbury}
I've ended up with a double of this one! Looks good though! :D

{out now from Candlewick Press}
Featured this one recently as a book birthday that I was excited for, so I'm happy to have a copy in my hands!

{coming August 7th from Freeform}
Hearing great things about this one---not sure if it will be for me, but we'll see!

{coming June 5th from Entangled Teen}
Aaaah, this one looks so good. May be just what I need to get me out of this fantasy slump.

Was feeling a bit run over (LOL, that's one step below "run down" in my book) healthwise this week, so I've been slacking in all facets of life. I'm behind on reviews, but I did finish Ink, Iron, and Glass and Cadaver & Queen so I'm hoping to get reviews of those up soon.  I've just started Ozland, excited about that, and eager to see how this series continues!  Other than that I've been working, trying to stay away from all these flu germs going around (a tough thing to do when you work at the public library uuuugh), enjoying the lovely rain we've been having, and binge watching the first season of Timeless before starting season 2. Anyone else watch the show? Plus Greatest Showman came out on digital this week so it's been on near-constant replay in my craft room LOL.

Have a great week and happy reading! :D

New Shelf Goodies {200}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

My two-book mail trend continues! xD
{coming May 22nd, 2018 from Disney-Hyperion}
Now that's a mouthful of a title! This one promises Breakfast Club-style shenanigans and I am so there for that. I think I've seen that movie close to 100 times. 😎

{October 2nd, 2018 from HMH Teen}
GAH I am so excited for this one. I gushed over this one on a recent WoW post so I am incredibly happy to have a copy in my hands!

This week ended up with pretty limited reading time (because sewing, sewing, sewing LOL) so I'm still working my way through Ink, Iron, & Glass (but still also loving it---all the clockwork mechanics and Elsa's a feisty one!). I've just started listening to Cadaver & Queen---I think I actually squeaked when I saw the audiobook pop up on Hoopla this week LOL. Love that the Hoopla app offers such new releases.  Anyhow, I just just started it, like 30 minutes in, but the story is off to a great start and I'm liking the narrator, too, so that's a plus.

Happy reading! :D

New Shelf Goodies {199}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

So books seems to be arriving two by two these past few weeks.
You would think I'm building a book arc. :D
The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
{out now from First Second Books}
So excited to have a gorgeous finished copy of this! I did an Instagram post with a few quick thoughts on this graphic novel--check it out here!

City of Bastards by Andrew Shvarts
{coming June 5th, from Disney Hyperion}
This looks like a fun series and such bold covers.  Have you read book one of this? Recommend it?

This week's reading report looks a lot like last week's lol---still reading Ink, Iron, and Glass, still listening to Traitor to the Throne.  I'm so slow lol. But it's been a busy week otherwise, good stuff and bad. My library life has been a crazy stress-fest as we switch the entire system over to RFID. Eek. Anyone work in a library that uses RFID that wants to assure me that it will all be worth it in the end? haha.   But on the bright side, this past week I redid my sewing and craft room and I'm just loving it now. So much more space and organization...I'm in crafting heaven. ♥ 😁

Oh, don't forget, just a few more days to enter our giveaway for American Panda/When Light Left Us OR Cadaver& Queen/The Tombs! Don't miss your chance!

Have a lovely week, everyone!

New Shelf Goodies {198)

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

Two lovely things in my mailbox this week!
{out now from EntangledTeen}
Carnival setting and cursed kisses---what not to be excited about?

{coming April 24th from Scholastic}
Super excited to have this in my hands! Daughter and I have both loved this series---sad to see it come to an end, but can't wait to see what is in store for this one!

Did you happen to see yesterday's post?? If not, please click back and meet my new co-blogger, Amy--and also enter to win two prize packs, one contemp & one dark fantasy!
 This week, I'm starting on Ink, Iron & Glass. I've heard some mixed reviews so I'm eager to see how it goes. I also started listening to Traitor to the Throne on audiobook and the world is every bit as exciting as I remember!

Have a great week, everyone!

New Shelf Goodies {197}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

Just a few new goodies this week, but so excited for both!
{out now for Simon & Schuster}
I've heard some amazing reviews of this series, so I'm super excited to have them both on hand so I can binge-read through them!

{coming June 5th from Disney Hyperion}
I am seeing fantastic reviews of this already so I am steeling my heart for what looks like a real emotional roller coaster of a book.

This week I finished Daughter of a Siren Queen and I really, really enjoyed it.  Look out for my review this week and then I'll be featuring a few quotes from it for the blog tour stopping here on the 25th.  Now I'm right back to the adventure with Danny and Colton in Chainbreaker---it's getting pretty exciting! I'm still listening to Dire King--not as fast as I have normally been going through audiobooks because I got a little waylaid.  I saw The Greatest Showman this past week and *sigh* I just cannot stop listening to the soundtrack. :D  Have any of you seen it? I heard some mixed reviews but I personally really loved it. I mean, if you need extensive character examination and heavy plot and historical accuracy--it's not gonna be your thing. But it was fun and the musical numbers were spectacular and it was just incredibly entertaining to me.  But of course, I've always been a huge fan of musicals so I'm also just jazzed to see them starting to be made again!
*Anyhow* xD

Have a lovely week, all. Happy reading! :)
Oh and HEY don't forget to enter to win a February book of choice  in my weekly book birthday posts!

New Shelf Goodies {196}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

A few fun things came through my mailbox this week!
{out now from Katherine Tegen Books}
Very excited for this one! I actually wasn't expecting this arc, and purchased a book box that I *think* is featuring this book for February. If I'm right, be on the lookout for a giveaway for this copy!

{coming June 5th from Bloomsbury}
Really looking forward to this one! It sounds like a touching story of grief, but also a great mystery.

{coming June 5th from Bloomsbury}
I have some catching up to do with this series, but I've heard some great things about the first books so I'm excited to have book 2 at the ready!

{uk version out now--US version out March 6th, 2018 from PenguinTeen}
Gahhhh, this thing is so shimmery and gorgeous. I love the US covers of this series, but the stunning UK designs are the ones I actually buy for my collection. SO pretty. I'm thrilled to finally have this in my hands. ♥

So my reading habits are kind of all over the place this week. I ended up putting Chainreaker aside (not that I'm not loving it, I AM!) so that I could tackle Daughter of a Siren Queen as I have the blog tour rolling through here in few weeks. And admittedly I am the slowest reader on the face of the earth. So I wanted to be sure I got it done in case I ran into some unavoidable distractions.  I'm also listening to The Dire King on audiobook right now. I adore this series and I'm not looking forward to finishing this one and have no more Jackaby stories to devour. 😭 Don't you just hate when a great series ends?? This, I think, is a the core of my habit of not reading the last books of series. xD

Have a great week, everyone!

New Shelf Goodies {195}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) .  My Sunday post is also where I'll share a little recap of my week, the books I've currently got my nose in and such. ;)

Here's too lovely books that have recently landed on my doorstep:
(coming April 3rd 2018, Sourcebooks)
You know, this book wasn't really on my radar until it landed in my mailbox, but I'm so glad it did! It looks cute and fun and I'm now really looking forward to it! Yay for unsolicited surprises :D

(coming March 6th 2018, Balzer & Bray)
Though I had some pretty mixed feelings about Of Fire and Stars, I still can't help but be excited for this story set in the same world (I think?), because the synopsis sounds amazing. Here's hoping! ;)

So, since I've been away for these past few months, don't think I haven't still been reading (and listening LOL) away! I'm planning to catch up on reviewing some of my recent reads. I'm usually reading one and listening to another simultaneously.  I find I'm doing a lot of audiobooks lately because its easy to just listen and enjoy while I'm sewing away! My son even got me some really nice wireless headphones for Christmas for just this purpose so I could stop nearly strangling myself every time I got up and moved around my craft table LOL. A few notable ones: Gentleman of Vice and Virtue is an outstanding audio. Love the reader (spoiler, its Christian Coulson, Tom Riddle himself. He was perfect for the voice of Monty!). Also, Hunting Prince Dracula---if you guys haven't tried this series on audio, DO. It's amazing. Nicola Barber is a phenomenal narrator.  Right now I'm reading Chainbreaker (eee, so glad to be back with these characters.) and I just finished up listening to Mary Weber's Evaporation of Sofi Snow.  Next up I'm planning to dive into Daughter of the Siren Queen and I can't wait! Looooved book one. ♥

Ok, all---have a great week. Don't forget to pop in to my previous post and enter to win a book of your choice!

New Shelf Goodies & The Weekly Nutshell {194}

For New Shelf Goodies, I'll be showing you what lovely books I acquired this week, whether from publishers, or the library, or from whatever half-crazed book-buying binge I happened to go on. :D (Inspired by Tynga's Stacking the Shelves) The Weekly Nutshell will be just that...my week here at Stories & Sweeties, in a nutshell. (inspired by Ginger @ GReads and her recaps at the end of the TGIF posts)

Here's what landed on my doorstep this week!

Purchased:
Eeeeee :D So excited to have this pretty edition. I plan to get them all eventually, but first priority was Ravenclaw. ;) I love the special house-specific info and artwork inside.

For review:
This looks so fun,  and I can read it once I pry it out the hands of my youngest LOL.
Very excited for both of these! These two were duplicate copies for me, though, so I'll be finding good homes for them!
This looks dark and creepy and wonderful. Can't wait to dive in.
Aaaaaaa, new Stephanie Perkins! I loved Anna and the French Kiss and I can't wait to see her tackle a horror story! This came in a fun promo pack, wrapped in police tape and with some cute (and slightly melty) custom M&Ms! :D

I also received this brilliant promo package for She Persisted by Chelsea Clinton & Alexandra Boiger. This is such a beautiful book and includes the stories of some great woman in history to inspire us all. ♥  The package came with the book, two t-shirts (one adult, one child's). a book bag, a card, and a bracelet!

Many thanks to Disney Books and Penguin Random House for all the wonderful review books!

The Weekly Nutshell:
So this week on the blog, I posted my WoW post of The Wicked Deep, which is suppose to have all the witchy goodness of Hocus Pocus + Practical Magic.  Sounds like a pre-order to me LOL.  I posted my review of the ever so gorgeous Disappearances by Emily Bains Murphy.  A new favorite, guys--I love when that happens. :)  Lastly, I posted my tour stop for The Last Magician b Lisa Maxwell---and while I haven't gotten to read this one yet, I couldn't be more excited to get to it. I loved her Peter Pan retelling, Unhooked, last year.

This week I listened to the audiobook of Geekerella. OMG guys...suuuuch a cute story.  I hope to get my full review written up this week. I loved the story---and had just a few little gripes with the audio performance LOL. But in the meantime, if you're in need of a cheer-up book, definitely reach for this one.  I'm also currently reading No Good Deed by Kara Connelly for the blog tour, stopping here this coming Wednesday.  Enjoying this one! It's a fun little romp though Sherwood Forest ;D.

That's all for me! Hope everyone is having a great summer!

New Shelf Goodies & The Weekly Nutshell {193}

Here's the goods for this week! ;)
For review:
No Good Deeds by Kara Connolly
Oh this looks fun---a modern girl gets sucked back to Robin Hood times and kicks butt with her crazy-good archery skills. Huzzah!
Murder, Magic, and What We Wore by Kelly Jones
Excited for all the gowns and magic and Victorian shenanigans!! xD

Thank you, PRH for these two!!

From Trades:
Invictus by Ryan Graudin
The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli
So excited for both of these. Sad, though, these two took a beating in the mail, especially Namsara. It seriously looks like the package was sat on sideways. Not cool, PO. I put them in the book press at work for a few days and it helped, but they are still a bit wavy.  Still, awesome to have them!!

Bought:
Rebel Magisters by Shawna Swendson
Rebel Rising by Shawna Swendson
I've been wanting to buy these for so long! I have no idea why these two were not published traditionally, because the first book, Rebel Mechanics was so awesome! You can check out my review here.

See my Rose Tyler FunkoPop there? She wanted to hang out with all the bad-ass chicks in this week's book haul :D

The Weekly Nutshell
This week turned out to be all about the Best Kind of Magic series LOL. I posted my review of this absolutely adorable book on Friday, but for my WoW pick this week, I also chose the upcoming sequel, The Sweetest Kind of Fate.  Also this week, I posted my monthly "What's New" list featuring the amazing list of books coming out in July.

This week I'm reading the Disappearances---really enjoying this one.  I had no idea it was going to be set in the 40s, but it just added another layer of interest to this beautiful writing for me.  Not sure what is next, but I'm still listening to Caraval on audiobooks and really loving it.

Hope everyone is have a wonderful week! And Happy 4th of July to my friends in the states! :D

New Shelf Goodies & The Weekly Nutshell {192}

It's been awhile since I've done one of these, in fact I haven't done one all this month!! So lets catch up!  How have you all been?? xD Getting lots of good reading done and enjoying much better weather than I have been here, I hope. UGH with the 108 degree heat already. Please tell me if you live somewhere that doesn't get over 85. I may become your neighbor. :/

So these are all the lovely things I've gotten this month so far.  Some of these were on my list of most highly anticipated books, so let the happy dancing commence!!  I've been amazingly lucky in finding some really awesome trades lately---first pic is all trades!

From Trades:
That cover. That cryptic synopsis. Fae. Ravens. SWOON
I LOVED The Forgetting so hard. So excited for this companion novel. ♥.♥
This looks so fun, and the cover is just gorgeous! (I have no idea why I love umbrellas so much LOL)
A recent WoW pick...nothing like a good southern gothic.
I've read a few of this authors books---always enjoy them.
I've heard this book is just beautifully written--can't wait to see for myself!
Aaaaaaagh---I can't express my insane excitement to have this Practical Magic prequel in my hands!!!
Another recent WoW pick--sisters, graveyards, family secrets...just my cuppa ;)
Cynthia Hand is one my favorites. I have never felt anything less than completely adoration for everything she's written. So, obviously---happy dance!!  :D

From Publisher/Author:
This was a total surprise and I think I stared in awe and disbelief for a good ten minutes when I unpacked this one. LOL
This story looks awesome, but I'll admit---it's the cover that has me smitten xD
This has me so curious!! Especially since I've never read this well-loved author. *hides*
I adore this exciting historical series so far, so I can't wait to read this one!
Looks so creepy! Spooky mansions, girls in mirrors,...looks like a perfect one to save for Halloween!
This makes me think of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas---sounds like an interesting historical read!
Another author I always really enjoy! The first book in this series was so good!
A family whose lives revolve around fears and phobias---this should be fun! LOL

Huge thanks to Penguin Random House, Flatiron Books, Tor Books, Abrams, Sarah Beth Durst, and all the amazing people I traded with!!

The Weekly Nutshell
This week I posted my WoW pick, The Forgotten Book by Mechthild Gläser--click on over to see one gorgeous cover!!  On Friday I featured Julie Buxbaum's new contemp novel, What To Say Next and I'm offering up an international giveaway for a finished copy!

It's been a super busy month all around and I feel so bad that I am reading slow as molasses (even more so than my usual slow pace lol) and reviewing even slower.  I finished Carmer & Grit last week and I'm hoping to have my review up soon. This week I'm finishing up Best Kind of Magic (super cute read!) and starting Wild Beauty which, by the way, I have a giveaway happening on Twitter for right now!! Click here to enter to win an ARC and one of my Wildflower Alice book Sleeves!  (and yes, I did pair them together because they just match so perfectly haha)
I also started listening to Caraval on audiobook, and it's absolutely amazing so far. Highly recommend.

That's all for this week! Happy reading, all! :D
