Creeptastic Covers! {Top Ten Tuesday}

This week, TTT gets spooky! Bloggers can pick their Halloween topic of choice, be it top ten horror stories, bookish Halloween costumes, books that will scare you,...or Top Ten Creeptastic Book Covers, which I've done here!  YA has some of the best creepy covers out there, if you ask me. These may not be THE scariest or the bloodiest, but these are 10 of my spine-tinglers:

LOVE this cover. It's one of my favorites off all time.  Not to mention this book began my deep love of everything that Cat Winters writes!

This ghostly image is so eerie to me. She looks like she's about to choke herself of those blood-red nails. 

This book is filled with creepy photography, that is supposedly unedited in any way from it's antique state.  At first glance this pic is not anything special, until you realize the little is levitating.  (Funny thing is, she is actually one of the most charming characters in the book!)

The washed out sepia and the angle of this really sets the tone of this one. With the wierd shadowing, to me it almost looks like she is just standing with her face to a wall.

 

This cover will always be one of my favorites, too. Stark black and white illustration with the splash of blood at her legs and the floating rose petals. Also one of my favorite books ever!

Not sure what exactly makes this one as creepy as it feels to me. The lighting, maybe? It just IS. 

Another that is not particularly creepy at first glance..until you notice the splatter of blood in the corner. 

This one just feels like chaos and madness and motion and I love how she's breaking through the floor and the rest of her seems buried. It's the hand grabbing her foot that really sends chills down my spine, though!

 

 

Some book covers are creepy, and then some feel even creepier after you've read the book and it's just as terrifying.  This is the case with Daughters Unto Devils...horror inside and out.

I always thought this one was creepy just on it's own, but when it was about to come out, there was a horrific sidebar banner to go with it, with all these haunting whispers and scratches. Scare me to death the first time I heard it and didn't know where the sound was coming from LOL.  I think of it everytime I see the cover.

So what do you think? These get you in the Halloween mood?  In case you haven't read any of these, most of them (aside for Madness so Discreet & This is Not a Test which I haven't read yet) are also books I highly recommend for perfectly creepy Halloween reads!

Old Books, New Looks {14}

Time again for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old. Here's a few that I've come across lately:

  The OLDIES  vs.  The NEWBIES 

Definitely an improvement. The first one has such a cheesy early 90s vibe.

Hm. Undecided. I like them both. Though I lean toward the original.

It's quite a change--though neither one screams out READ ME to me.

I think I actually prefer the illustrated cover.  The Rainbow Rowell-illustrated cover trend has definitely taken YA by storm. :) In a good way.

I really like both of these, but I think I like the original just a bit more. Makes me think of Breakfast Club. :)

A perfect example of how font treatments can make such a huge difference. Original wins it for me. Can't imagine why they bothered to change it!

 

The first was simple and interesting, but I always thought it looked a little blah. While I don't love the new one either, their makeup definitely makes me think MERMAIDS!

Loved the original---simple design and gorgeous font. I think the new one has grown on me since I first saw it, it's pretty, but I still love the impact and originality of the first.

Old Books, New Looks {13}

ime again for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old. Here's a few that I've come across lately:

  The OLDIES  vs.  The NEWBIES 

Loved the DRAMA of the original. I didn't read this one, but I think it just fit a book set in the 30s. The new is pretty, like the font, but it's not as interesting and doesn't give as much of a sense of the book.

The original was only okay for me in the first place, but on the second, the girl looks a little cartoony to me. Meh on both.

Both pretty gorgeous!  Love the boldness of the original, and I want that girl's tealy blue highlights! :)

I love the humor in both of these, but all the color and dimension of the original really draws my eye and makes me want to read it!!

I don't like the new :( There was just something about the elegant font and the bold, stark bloody infinity symbol that was perfect. 

Ack.  This change is just a NO for me.

I'm glad they stuck with the font!  I never really liked the dragonfly (if anyone remembers, this cover originally had a clockwork anatomical heart on it, and I loved that!). I actually like the new one better for these! Very dramatic and gorgeous steampunk fashion! :)

What do you think? Any new favorites? Guess which series is getting a whole new look? Yup, Perfect Ruin is getting a makeover that matches Burning Kingdoms. Both are pretty, but I really loved the original Perfect Ruin cover. Ah well.  And I love the Chaos cover---even if he does have her like a sack of potatoes. And well, floating heads. Not too sure. ;)  Third Twin looks creeeeepy :)

Time again for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old. Here's a few that I've come across lately:

The OLDIES  vs.  The NEWBIES 
Some interesting changes this time around! 

Kind of like both, but the new one lacks the intensity and originality of the old. Plus I don't care for the font on the new one. 

The original of this always kind of bugged me---for some reason the eye didn't seem like it was in the right place on her face. The new one is pretty, but again, lacks some originality. 

LOVE the change. The original seemed so boring to me.

Not sure which of these I can really say I like---the new one feels very adult novel to me. However, I always hated that the "YA" characters on the original look like they are almost 30.

Like the new one better...the original was an interesting idea that just came out looking awkward.

Ooooh, major improvement here. Especially love how the title shadows her face.

They really should have stuck with the original on this one---it's focuses on her eyes and make you curious about why they are like that!  The second...not sure what's going on..is she a mannequin?
