Old Books, New Looks {3}

Thought it was about time for another round of Old Books, New Looks, where I feature the covers of books that have already been released and their redesigned paperback counterpart! :) Sometimes I like the new better, sometimes I like the old. Here's a few that I've come across lately:

The OLDIES vs. The NEWSIES

Here's my thoughts:
~Ruby Red: love both of these, actually! The red cover, in person, is so shimmery and shiny, hard not to love. But I also love the pretty dress and London background on the new cover.
~Chime: ugh. Not a fan of the change. The original is stunning. The new one? Um, what's with disproportionate floating head?
~Please Ignore Vera Dietz: on the fence about these. I love the simplicity and rawness of the original, because it fit the rawness of the story. The new one is so pretty though, and definitely fits the story, too.
~Cryer's Cross: Eck. The original is one of my favorite covers around---as creepy as can be and completely significant to the story. The new one looks cheesy, like a Twilight-meadow-scene knock off. Nope, don't like it.

So what do you think of these? Like the oldies or the newbies?

  1. I agree with everything you said, especially the last one lol :)

  2. I'm in complete agreement also! The new Chime cover looks cartoonish and Cryer's Cross is so cliched or amateurish.

  3. Okay, love the RUBY RED redesign, but CRYER'S CROSS? Lame. Makes it look more like a contemp romance or something.

  4. No! Cryer's Cross' original cover was so perfect. It relayed the story and creepiness so well, and related 100% to the book. (Rant over.) I do like the new Vera Dietz and Chime covers, though.

  5. I liked every single one of the first covers more than the second. :) All the second covers looked like knock-offs of other popular YA novels, while the first ones were more unique.

  6. I agree with you about each cover. But WHAT were the publishers thinking with the new Cryer's Cross cover? That is just...ick.

  7. I prefer the new one in all of these except Chime. The original Chime cover is wayyyy cooler.

  8. I like the original covers better for all of them except Vera Dietz. I think the new cover better suits the mood and story.

  9. I really like the new Ruby Red cover but they are just trying to copy all of the pretty dress covers to get more people interested.
